About Stupid Band Names

StupidBandNames.com started as a fun side project while I was learning how to code. My brain is always scanning conversations for band names. I catch myself saying "that would be a great name for a band" or "that would be a great name for a terrible band" all the time. So I built a machine that does it for me.

The original site ran for years and generated hundreds of thousands of names. Its sister site, Black Metal Band Names, now lives here as the metal band name generator.

How it works

Each genre has its own big lists of words and its own naming patterns. Every click mixes them together at random, right in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Clean and filthy

The generator is clean by default. Adults who want the classic crude version can turn on Filthy mode, which asks you to confirm you are 18 or older. Ads are never shown in Filthy mode.

Using a name

Every name here is random. If you want to use one for a real band, go for it, but search it first to make sure nobody else got there before you.
